Wales! And more castles...

With one final lap around Edinburgh I'm back on the road; aim for the next few days is to explore Wales and see some more castles!


First up is a quick sprint into the mountains to ride along Hardknott Pass; a road sharing the title of Steepest Road in the UK.

After spending the day (about 6 hours of riding) flying along back roads I made it to Manchester, VERY LATE and with a quick bite to eat was out for the night.

Next morning I had a mission; More Castles. Visiting them! Specifically in Wales!


First up was the coastal walled city of Caernarfon - not only the castle but the whole down was ringed by a defensive wall!


Completely surreal to ride through an area which seems pulled from GoT!

The castle was strategically placed on the coastline and was held by many different parties over its history. In the museum they have a chess board dedicated to all the players!

The step for the day was to tick off another of the Top 10 Motorcycling Roads; this time in Wales! It absolutely did not disappoint!

Up until the point that I missed a turn and decided to just make it up; the GPS tells me where roads are but doesnt really help to distinguish what they're made of!

The bike is very heavy fully loaded and in mud I'd have to unload it to lift it back up if I dropped it!

Thankfully I didn't and was back on tarmac dodging oncoming traffic whilst the sun set in the background!

​Back on main roads I then sped towards my ultimate destination; a small mountain town called Llangollen - but first a quick bite!

Llangollen was historically hard to access due to the only roads in having to pass thru the Horeshoe Pass; cut into the side of the mountains below a Slate Quarry.

Safely at the hotel; covered in mud I quickly passed out! Thats all for today!
