SCOTLAND! and Castle #1: Stirling

For a long time I’ve wanted to visit Scotland not just for the scotch (obviously) but also for the castles & the amazing northern coastline. First stop however is Edinburgh for a night and then on to the historic Stirling Castle.

The site of the current castle was of strategic importance since the turn of the last (last) millennia. The current palace however was built in the 1500s by King George V with grand decorations designed to emphasize his right to rule.


Inside the castle is beautifully decorated; the externals covered in statues of ancient deities and the internals covered with wooden portraits of his family and other notable individuals.

The castle has come under siege many times and the outer walls are pock-marked with evidence of prior conflict.
