Scotchy Scotch Scotch…and coast roads

The weather has come good with amazing timing as I’m now beginning to head into the Scottish Highlands.

One of the aims of this trip was to visit, sample and learn as much about Scotch Whisky as I could from the people who make it. And to do that the best place to start would be…Scotland?

​The Glenmorangie tour had just left after I’d arrived so I’ll have to do that one on the way back, but for the mean time I’ve assigned myself some homework and their website has a LOAD of information and videos if you’re every trying to justify drinking at home alone as educational.

The head distiller (Head of Distilling and Whisky Creation) at Glen Morangie (Dr Lumsden) features in these videos and most of the products are available in the gift shop, including umbrellas, ties and SUNGLASSES MADE FROM THEIR OAK CASKS! Scotch Glasses…better than beer goggles?




I then pushed north to the northern most tip of the island John O’Groats! I naturally took the obligatory photograph (free here…apparently you have to pay at Lands End) and hit the gift shop. I’ve never been into a more crammed gift shop, there was a collection of every possible souvenir you might imagine or want. Thankfully I’m travelling light so I had to remain content with some postcards and miniature bottles for sampling later!

The roads into John O’ Groats are amazing; these roads follow the rocky coastline however dart inland where the coast cannot be followed; this was a long day of some of the best mountain/coast roads I’ve ever ridden on!
