NESSIE! And the Scottish Crown Jewels

After an epic pass out (somewhat alcohol related) I pushed south along the path created by Great Glen Fault. Scotland sits on a fault line between two continents which has pushed up the enormous mountains I’d been riding thru for the last few days; it also has an almost dead straight series of Lochs along this fault line (of which Loch Ness is one).

Loch Ness exhibition has loads of information detailing the history of the Loch Ness monster from ancient times (reports of a huge snake) to 565AD when an Irish Priest (St. Columba) reportedly confronted a monster beside the loch to current attempts to photograph and sonar image both the monster and the loch itself. They also had some of the wreckage found whilst scanning - significantly from this craft which broke the 200mph water speed record, and then broke apart!

Further down Loch Ness is the ruins of a castle built between 1300s & 1600s called Urquhart. Unfortunately it’s been destroyed (to prevent its use by others).

I then continued to push south through some more amazing scenery – with my faithful director riding along!

I passed through Glasgow and arrived in Edinburgh just in time to enter the castle which is up an enormous hill!

The castle was largely destroyed in the 16th century and then rebuilt; notably the Chapel was spared and dates back to the 12th century.


They also have on display one of the largest cannons in the world!
