More Castles! ...And back to London

Unfortunately the UK leg of this adventure has to come to an end so I'm slowly making my way back to London.


After slowly getting packed; and 10 minutes of getting dressed in my motorbike gear I find a ruined cathedral in a valley not 5 minutes from the hotel! Turns out the remote nature of Llangollen was exactly what the Cistercian monks desired.

The abbey was enormous and had its own fish pond to support the number of people living here!

Back on the road I'm heading towards the coast again; down out of the mountains to the port town of Aberystwyth but first a quick stop for lunch and to charge everything!

After quickly looking around town (wasn't a lot to see) I'm back on the road and back up into the mountains; ultimately my goal is the southern coast of Wales before turning back to London however that's a little too far currently!

I call it a night in a small mountain town of Llandrindod Wells and will continue south shortly.

After a very quiet night I'm back heading south again; this time towards Cardiff to a town called Caerphilly to see one of the 'most modern' castles in the UK - the old giant square cube design was less effective than the below 'concentric' as was learned during the crusades. This castle is ringed by two moats and two sets of walls and was never taken by force. 

That is a long way to swim whilst being shot at!


And I'm off again; one more quick stop before London! This is Raglan Castle and was just a wealthy family's home. Most of the defences are decorative.

Still so much left to explore... I wholeheartedly recommend Northern & Mid Scotland to anyone considering this trip; Wales was beautiful too but I spent too much time on Motorways in England to really enjoy the riding sadly!
