Dunnottar Castle, Elgin Cathedral, No Drones!

After seeing the very much alive castle at Stirling (it was exactly as Age of Empires promised!) I went to visit the ruins of Dunnottar Castle today.

Dunnottar Castle was historically one of the most impregnable fortresses built; mostly due to its location – it hangs out into the ocean via a small rocky outcrop. There isn’t even a land bridge to access it!

The significance of the castle is due it’s being the hiding place for the Scottish Crown Jewels (Honors of Scotland) during the time of Oliver Cromwell’s armies in the 17th century.




The castle itself had been left to ruin however was reopened to the public in the 2000s, the remains are fascinatingly creepy to walk around!

After this I visited Elgin Cathedral, and enormous 13th century cathedral that collapsed and was left in ruins until the 1800s when a local man cleared the debris and began to sort the rubble. What remains is the skeleton of the cathedral and much of the detailed decorations.

After a massive day I finally made it to Inverness which is absolutely beautiful! The river Ness runs through here and the city has decorated it spectacularly.

There is also a replica castle built in the 1800s used as the local courts!
